I am going to be picking up my new 27" iMac at the store tomorrow. For the past 4 years I have been using a 24" Dell at 1920x1200. Since the 27" iMac is 2560x1140, do most people run it at native or something lower?

I am looking forward to the increased screen size so I can have more rows/columns viewable, but not sure I want them any smaller.

I sit about 24-30" away from the screen.

How would the 27" look at something lower?

well i looked around the f@h website a bit, and found instructions for running the windows client through wine on linux. they are here: http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?p=158848#p158848

so i figured i'd try to see if that could happen for osx.

i installed winebottler from http://winebottler.kronenberg.org/,

the os x cuda toolkit from http://developer.nvidia.com/object/cuda_3_2_downloads.html

then the gpu3 folding client from http://www.stanford.edu/~friedrim/.Folding@home-Win32-GPU_Vista-631.zip

ran the client in wine but i keep getting "Gpu species not recognized." errors from the folding client. i see theres a new version of the client available, i'll try that. thinking either that or the os x nvidia drivers are enough different from the windows ones that the client can't access it properly. this is on a 2009 mp with the gt120 which is fermi i think. tried both fermi and non- in the client but both gave that error. play around with it and see maybe what you all find:)

EDIT 1: I JUST TRIED THE NEWEST VERSION OF THE CLIENT, 6.40r1 AND IT NOW APPEARS TO DETECT THE GRAPHICS CARD! it sees the gt120 as Gpu type=3 species=20. the client downloads the core then it crashes when it tries to run with Calling '.\FahCore_15.exe -dir work/ -suffix 01 -nice 19 -checkpoint 15 -verbose -lifeline 63 -version 641'

[22:17:18] Client-core communications error: ERROR 0xc0000135
[22:17:18] This is a sign of more serious problems, shutting down.

will continue to try to get this to work :)

EDIT 2: I missed the part to install some wrappers. going to see if that helps. apparently from http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=16783 someone said gpu2 ran on os x so maybe it's possible

Hello everyone.
I've been thinking a lot about getting either an iPad 2 or an iPhone 4. Iv'e saved a lot of money, and I really want to spend some of them, on one of these devices, but I just don't know which one to get. So just wanted to hear, if anyone out there had the same problem?

I want the iPad cause want a very portable device, for example on holidays etc. and to do some easy school tasks.

the other way around, I would like to get a new phone, i'm just scared of loosing it on the floor. I've got an old sony ericsson phone, it get's the job done, and that's it, but it's durable.

Anyone with some advice?

PS-In a two week trip to Italy last summer, I was delayed by TWO transport labor strikes...according to locals, this happens regularly. You might wonder how they get stuff done if this happens so often. The short answer is that they don't.

A friend told me the same thing happened in France when they were waiting at the Louvre Muesuem. They asked someone working there why the line was so long. The worker responded causally that the workers were deciding on whether to strike. :rolleyes:

It's quite ridiculous that the unions are obstructing the implementation of technology. A new scanning system, a better supply chain, and automated cranes might cost a few jobs here and there, but it's an unnecessary inconvenience to many. Some other process is getting in the way. In a previous thread http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=11731359&postcount=26 some Western Digital software was responsible.

mjwatt29, can you post the full Winclone.log as an attachment. I was able to suss it out in that other case given the full log file.

Thank you for your advice and help. However, because this particular iMac G4 didn't look so good, I am no longer interested in it. I did, though, buy an iMac G5 17" (1.8 GHz with Bluetooth Keyboard & Mouse) for $328.95. Earlier today, I tried to bid on a iMac G5 with an Intel processor that was running Snow Leopard. I lost by $5.01! :( I wanted that one so badly!

Now I'm wondering, they say the first 500 people there will get a free T-shirt, is that the first 500 that actually buy Leopard, or the first 500 that walk into the store? I ordered online, and because of the issues with not being sure whether MacMall is going to ship it and have it to me on Friday, I'm still teetering with cancelling the order, going to the store, buying it with my student discount and getting the free T-shirt.I'll be at the Palo Alto Store by about 2PM with my copy from a nearby college bookstore that I'm getting for $69 before 2PM. That should put me near the front of the queue.

I go to the store for the party social part and get in line even though I am not going to buy it there so I can get inside the store to play with it on one of the Macs inside. I'll have my old G4 PB with me and will be installing it while I'm in the queue from the copy I buy earlier at a college store nearby.

Pretty sure you have to buy a $129 copy to get the T-Shirt.
